Course Time Limits
Swim: 45 minutes
Bike: 1 hour, 15 minutes
Run: 1 hour
These time limits will be strictly enforced.  Failure to meet any of the time limits will result in disqualification.  If an athlete is disqualified for not meeting a posted time limit or drops out during some segment of the race, the athlete WILL NOT be permitted to continue, even in an unofficial capacity.
The transition area will be located in the 24th Street Park.

1 kilometer Ocean Swim
TIME LIMIT:  45 minutes
     The swim will be conducted in the direction of the current.  The swim will start on the beach at either 32nd Street or 16th Street.  Each wave will run into the water at the sound of the horn, swim out approximately 50 meters, go around the turn buoy and parallel the beach.  Swimmers will exit the water at 24th Street and run across the beach to the steps leading to the boardwalk.  Athletes will enter the transition area using the northeast entrance to the 24th Street Park.
     Wet suits will be permitted as per the USA Triathlon rule book. All athletes may wear wet suits with no affect on placing if the water temperature is 78 degrees or below. For water temperatures between 79 and 84, athletes may wear wet suits but ARE NOT ELIGIBLE for awards. Above 84 degrees, no athletes are permitted to wear wet suits. Anticipated water temperature is 72-75 degrees.

Bike Course
14 mile flat road course
TIME LIMIT:  1 hour, 15 minutes

     Athletes will be required to run/walk their bicycles out of the transition area.  Once they have cleared the timing mat area, athletes will mount their bikes and head north in the eastern-most lane of Atlantic Avenue.  At the Cavalier Hotel, bicyclists will turn right to continue north on Atlantic Avenue to the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Shore Drive.  Athletes will then turn left and head west in the outside lane of Shore Drive.
     Shortly before the West Gate (Gate 2) of Fort Story, athletes will do a U-turn in Shore Drive and return east in the inside westbound lane of Shore Drive until they reach Atlantic Avenue.  Bicyclists will head south on Atlantic Avenue following the reverse of the outbound leg of the course.  Athletes will be required to dismount from thier bikes in a clearly marked area before crossing the timing mats.  Athletes will then walk/run back to their designated rack.
     Aerobars and disk wheels are permitted on the bike.  NO DRAFTING IS ALLOWED and variable time penalties will be assigned according to the USA Triathlon rule book.  Roving draft marshals will be on the course monitoring bike positions.
     PLEASE NOTE THAT NO BICYCLES MAY BE REMOVED FROM THE TRANSITION AREA UNTIL THE LAST CYCLIST HAS RETURNED FROM THE BIKE COURSE.  At that time, you must match your bib number with your bike frame number before removing your bike from the area.

Run Course
5k (3.1 mile) run on the Virginia Beach Boardwalk
TIME LIMIT:  1 hour
     Athletes will exit the southeast corner of the 24th Street Park near the Old Coast Guard Museum. Here athletes will turn right onto the boardwalk.
     Runners will head south on the boardwalk until approximately 2nd Street where they will make a U-turn and head north. Runners should keep to the right as much as possible regardless of whether they are heading north or south at the time.
     The finish line will be located on the boardwalk between 23rd and 24th Streets. Once crossing the finishline, athletes will be directed toward the beach where they will find post-race refreshments such as bagels, fruit, water and fluid replacement beverages.
